ESV.org<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0– The name\u00a0Zephaniah<\/strong>\u00a0means \u201cYahweh has hidden.\u201d This is significant in regards to both the prophet\u2019s background and his message. The name probably shows that Zephaniah\u2019s parents were faithful followers of God. Zephaniah was also the great-great-grandson of the godly king Hezekiah (Zeph 1:1<\/a>). Like the prophets Joel and Amos, he prophesied about the coming \u201cday of the\u00a0LORD\u201d when God would judge his enemies and bless his followers. Zephaniah urged the people of Judah to seek the Lord so that they would be \u201chidden\u201d from his anger on that day (Zeph 2:3<\/a>). Though even God\u2019s own people would be judged, at the same time the Lord would preserve a faithful remnant. The book of\u00a0Zephaniah\u00a0ends with the promise that, through this remnant, Israel will be restored and the knowledge of God will be brought to all nations.\u00a0(Zephaniah 3:9\u201313<\/a>)<\/p>

Christ in Zephaniah\u2014<\/b>Jesus alluded to Zephaniah on two occasions (cf.\u00a0Zeph 1:3<\/a>;\u00a0Mt. 13:41<\/a>\u00a0and cf.\u00a0Zeph 1:15<\/a>;\u00a0Mt. 24:29<\/a>). Both of these passages about the day of the Lord are associated with Christ\u2019s second advent. Although the Messiah is not specifically mentioned in Zephaniah, it is clear that He is the One who will fulfill the great promises (Zeph 3:9\u201320<\/a>). He will gather His people and reign in victory: \u201cThe Lord has taken away your judgments, He has cast out your enemy. The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst; you shall see disaster no more\u201d (Zeph 3:15<\/a>). (Wilkinson, B., & Boa, K. Talk thru the Bible)<\/p>

Christ in Zephaniah<\/b>\u00a0– Jesus Christ hides us from God’s wrath and is the One Who will someday rule the earth as King of Israel (Zeph 3:15-17<\/a>)<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
